Samsung’s new AI phone can make calls in different languages.

Smartphones are not just devices, but extensions of our personal and professional lives. The launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, along with its siblings – the S24+ and S24, marks a significant leap in mobile technology. At the heart of this revolution lies the Galaxy AI, a beacon of innovation that redefines our interaction with the digital world. Watch the below video to see the new Samsung S24 AI features in action.

Samsung’s latest offering is redefining how we communicate using AI

The Galaxy S24 stands out as a marvel in communication technology. It effortlessly bridges language barriers with Live Translate, providing real-time voice and text translations within the native app – a feature that eliminates the need for third-party apps while ensuring complete privacy. According to CNET the tool can translate a live phone call in real-time voice and text between two different languages. Live translation supports 13 languages and 17 dialects, allowing two people to have a basic conversation even if they don’t speak the same language.

The Interpreter Mode further elevates this experience, offering instant translations in a split-screen view, even in the absence of cellular data or Wi-Fi. The view is arranged so that the people talking can stand face-to-face and read the text transcription of what the other person said

Chat Assist, another gem in the crown, refines conversational tones in messages across various apps, ensuring that the intended emotion and context are never lost in translation. The integrated AI in the Samsung Keyboard supports real-time translation in 13 languages, breaking down linguistic barriers in an instant. In an automotive context, Android Auto’s capability to summarize messages and suggest relevant responses ensures connectivity without compromising safety on the road.

A Note-Worthy Improvement

Samsung Notes gets a significant upgrade with Note Assist, featuring AI-generated summaries and template creation for streamlined note-taking. Transcript Assist uses advanced speech-to-text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings with remarkable accuracy, especially in scenarios with multiple speakers.

Searching for “Watchacallits”

The Galaxy S24 series introduces the revolutionary Circle to Search with Google, a feature that transforms online search experiences. This intuitive, gesture-driven search tool allows users to circle, highlight, or tap anything on their screen to access comprehensive, high-quality search results. This feature represents a milestone in smartphone technology, offering a seamless and integrated search experience without the need to switch apps.

More power for better content

Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine takes creative freedom to new heights, enabling users to capture and edit content with unparalleled precision and quality. This engine sets a new benchmark in smartphone photography and videography, allowing users to create professional-grade content with just a few taps.

What does apple have to say about this?

According to Bloomberg, iOS 18 will feature gen AI technology that should improve how both Siri and the Messages app can field questions and auto-complete sentences. According to reports, Apple plan to use large language models, a crucial part of generative AI, to make Siri smarter. The report said the LLM feature is expected to be released with an iPhone software update next year. This timeline would coincide with the September release of iOS 18, Apple’s next mobile operating system, which is expected to ship on the iPhone 16.

Bottom Line

Samsung is clearly ahead for the time being due to their innovative features that will get people talking, especially over the phone in various languages. But it is worth noting that the S24 Ultra does come at a hefty price range of $1300 USD, which would be close to R40k if you had to calculate import duties and all. Are we seeing a shift to people willing to spend more on phones that offer them generative AI features, only time will tell. Legal professionals who rely heavily on contract management, client interactions and innovative technology to streamline their work performance, may be early adopters to this type of offering.
